March–April (Panguni) · 1 day
Panguni Uthiram (பங்குனி உத்திரம்) is the day the Uthiram nakshatra meets the full moon in the Tamil month of Panguni. Tamil temples use it for kalyana utsavam — the ceremonial wedding of the deity. Palani, Tiruttani, and many Murugan temples marry Murugan and Deivanai. Madurai and other Shaiva houses mark Shiva and Parvati. Sri Vaishnava temples may mark Rama-Sita or Andal. The household fast is common; the temple ther (chariot) is the public mark. This is a Tamil temple day that also lands on the home calendar. It is not Puthandu (14 April) and not a generic "wedding festival." In 2026 the date is Wednesday, 1 April.
Observances
Temple kalyana or home fast
A day-long fast, broken after darshan or after a short home puja to the household's married deities.
If no temple wedding is nearby, seat the household Murugan or Shiva-Parvati pair, offer fruits, and break the fast together.
Ther or procession
Where a temple runs a chariot, families stand for the passing. Not every city has one.

In the US
US Murugan temples (Concord, Lanham, Toronto-area SL Tamil temples, Sydney) often run a Panguni Uthiram weekend if the Wednesday is a workday. The home fast still belongs on the 1st. Do not move the vow to Saturday without saying so.
