Mid-December to mid-January · 30 days
Margazhi (மார்கழி) is the Tamil solar month from mid-December to mid-January. For Sri Vaishnava houses it is Andal's month: one verse of the Thiruppavai each dawn, thirty days, ending as Thai begins. Carnatic and many mixed Tamil homes keep the month as a season of early music — not only Iyengar. This page is the month. Vaikunta Ekadasi and Arudra Darisanam have their own pages inside the same window. Do not collapse them here. In 2026–27 Margazhi runs 16 December 2026–13 January 2027.
Observances
One Thiruppavai verse at dawn
Thirty pasurams, one each morning, in order. The month is the recitation.
Put the day's verse on the fridge. Play it in the car if dawn at home is impossible. Do not skip to the famous verses and call the month done.
Margazhi bhajan or temple goṣṭhi
Many temples run a dawn goṣṭhi. Houses that cannot go still keep the verse at home.

In the US
US Venkateswara and Sri Vaishnava temples run Margazhi dawn programs, often at 6 or 7 a.m. in winter. Livestreams from Srirangam and Tirupati cover the verse of the day. A phone alarm and a YouTube pasuram is how most diaspora children meet Andal. Name the verse number.
